Danielle’s Story: Genetic Testing in Breast Cancer

A few years ago, Danielle found out she carried a BRCA mutation, making her more susceptible to breast cancer.  Since then she has become a dedicated fund raiser and educator on the subject. Danielle supports organizations that provide funding, care, and raise awareness for cancer – especially breast cancer.  She has participated in various events supporting this cause such as Avon Walks for Breast Cancer (Go Team Nonna’s Angels!), the Cinderella Classic women’s metric century ride, Race for the Cure, the See Jane Tri women’s sprint triathlon, and Barb’s Race.  In this Mollie Medcast episode, Danielle shares her story, scientific insight and thoughts on the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) and genetic testing

Danielle holds a PhD in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley and currently teaches General Biology and Developmental Biology at the University of San Francisco.  She has studied at prestigious institutions such as Fairfield University, the University of Queensland in Australia, the University of Chicago, and the University of California, Berkeley.
